Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love Autumn because of all of the colors of the changing leaves, the crisp air and the sound of the rain. It reminds me of drinking hot apple cider and the smell of cinnamon. This is the time of the year that I bake a lot and the first big meal that I have ever made by myself when I moved out to be on my own.
I used to help my mom make mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole, candied yams, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Now, I make Thanksgiving dinner with my husband and family every year.
We have made our own family tradition of making Thanksgiving dinner using recipes that we learned from our parents and adding some of our own. Here are my favorite things about Thanksgiving:
5. Getting fancy with it- I like to get dressed up for this special day and decorate the table with a nice tablecloth and cloth napkins, some candles and a floral centerpiece. This is a day to celebrate! 4. Macy's Parade- It reminds me of my childhood and I'm still excited to see what floats will go by. Even if I'm not watching the whole time, there's something comforting about hearing it in the background on Thanksgiving morning as I'm getting ready and making food for our feast.
3. The turkey dinner- The day is centered around this meal that's usually eaten earlier than your normal dinner time so you can have seconds (or thirds) and still have room for dessert later. This is the only meal that I actually like having the leftovers the next day heated up or in a sandwich.
2. Pie- The dessert that's got it all. A buttery, flaky crust that's filled with a spiced pumpkin custard, topped with a fluffy vanilla whipped cream. It's not too sweet but very satisfying after your big dinner. 1. Family- Having a day off to spend with them and relaxing, watching movies and playing board games.
